Frequently Asked Questions

Due to the extremely high number of e-mails we receive, we would really appreciate if you first read our FAQ, and then contact us, thanks a lot! It was created with the idea to give you the answers even before mailing us, thus saving both our and your time. The FAQ will be regularly updated to ensure it includes the majority of questions we receive every day.

General questions about the site (site's features, sections, submissions etc.)

01. Where does the name of Cotswold come from?

Cotswold Reptile Centre is set in the beautiful Regency town of Cheltenham, which is located as a centre for the stunning Cotswold countryside.

02. When was Cotswold Reptiles founded?

The founder started keeping reptiles and trading back in 1983 in the City of Bath. Since then, the business moved to Cirencester, Charlton Kings, Cheltenham and to this day; Lower Mill Street, Cheltenham. Read more....

03. Who's behind the site?

The IT is headed by our founder, and assisted by a dedicated Web Development Team.

04. Who's front of house at the Reptile Centre?

The manager is Kim Pryce, co-owner of Tropifauna Farms. Kim is seriously into Bearded Dragons morphs, Chameleons, Ball Python and Boa morphs. Kim has been keeping reptiles for many years. The weekend staff include Lewis Hill and Elliot Langford. Lewis has been with us on and off for nearly eight years.

05. Can I buy online?

We have links on this site to our secure online shop. We sell all manner of heating, lighting, books, decor, vitamins & supplements, feeds and other herp accessories via this route. We DO NOT sell livestock online, as we feel we need to be in direct contact with buyers of our livestock, to ensure we give complete and total backup.

06. Are you connected to Naturerep?

As above, our founder is a Director of Naturerep, and Cotswold distributes Naturerep Reptile Products.

07. How often do you update the site?

The site is updated on a weekly basis or more.

08. I have a reptile related question, although I'm sure you get hundreds of e-mails per day, can you help me, please?

Sure. We'll try to respond to your questions as soon possible, but indeed, we're getting hundreds of e-mails per day, so please, be patient. Direct your herp related questions to tymilsom@cotswoldreptiles.co.uk

9. Is the livestock list you put on the site, actually what you have instock?

We do not advertise animals we dont have, unlike many reptile centres and websites! Occassionally we will note that a species is due in on a certain date if it's quite exciting. You should always contact us first before travelling to the store, just incase the species you require has been sold out prior to the list being updated.

10. Are the staff at the shop able to assist with my questions by telephone?

For sure! You can call 01242 513588 during shop hours, and they will be more than happy to advise you in any way they can.

11. After I submit my herp document, how long does it take to publish it online?

It usually takes less than 48 hours, we receive all of your pics and documents, and we'll add them as soon as possible, so it's not necessary to mail us with questions regarding this issue, just keep visiting the site, you'll see it there.

12. Do you import reptiles?
We used to import both wild sourced, and captive bred reptiles on a monthly basis, up until about 4 years ago. Currently most of our stock is sourced within the UK and the rest of Europe. However we are looking to begin shipping livestock from certified dealers in the US next year.

13. Do you agree with selling wild caught reptiles?

To a point. Lets not forget, without the founder stock, there would be no captive bred species! But we emphasis on captive bred, and only deal with sustainable wild souced stock.

14. Do you provide a guarantee with your livestock?

In a manner of speaking yes. We guarantee that all animals are feeding and appear outwardly healthy and free from infection, at the time they are offered for sale. We do not guarantee reptiles after they have left our premisis, as it is impossible to control how they have been maintained. We have regulated this approach for over 20 years and have not received any problems. Read More....

15. Can I order certain species of herps?
You can leave your requests and details with the staff at the store, or online. We will do our best to obtain the species for you if they are available. We will NOT ask a deposit at this stage. If we have located the given animal/s and they are available, we reserve the right to ask for a deposit. Given that the specimen arrives and is in good condition, that deposit is non-refundable. Should the specien not arrive when specified and/or is not of our usual quality, the deposit IS refundable.

16. Do you sell to the trade?

Yes we do. We are looking to offer more to the trade sector this coming year 2008.

17 . Do you ship Worldwide?

Yes. Minimum international order is £1,000.00

18. Do you deliver in the UK?

Depends on the prevaling weather conditions and the species involved. We are very fussy! Better to take the trip and visit our centre, we will even make you a cup of coffee!

We respect your opinion - negative or positive!
